Dinosaur Clothes
I am certain that sewing will be extinct in 30 years. I know I should learn how to actually do it correctly. Especially repair work. But every time I have even a small task, like putting a button back on, I'm reminded how tedious and frustrating it can be.
Have any of you learned as an adult? How did you learn? Did you enjoy it? I would love to want to learn and get decent at repair work.
Seems like moms are supposed to know these things!

My mom was a really good seamstress too. She made my wedding dress out of 3 different patterns, and all the bridesmaid dresses! I haven't sewn for years, but she did teach me when I was growing up. I've been meaning to share some of the info but never think to offer at a good time. Let me know if I can help!

Dions mom is an excellent seamstress (seriously, she made my wedding dress, she is awesome!) and she has showed me a few simple stitches, so now I am REALLY awesome at making things like beanbags and tiny pillows. My strategy for buttons and couch cushions that are falling apart is to just sew and sew and sew until it is a big huge crazy mess that can't possibly be undone. :) so far so good. :)

I can sew, too! My mom (who also sewed my wedding dress (a combination of patterns and sketches I drew), my sister's wedding dress and all the grandkid's baptism outfits) is an awesome sewer and she was very careful about teaching us all (boys too!) how to sew. Unfortunately, I am not nearly as patient as she is. I mostly sew the same way I like to drive, straight ahead-pedal to the metal. I agree that it's a special skill and I would like to develop it, someday, when I can really enjoy it. I'll never be able make the lovely heirlooms that she does, but I really love the process of picking the style, pattern and the fabric to go together and I look forward to sharing the craft part of it with my kids, too.

I can sew, my Grandma taught me when I was little. And although I've proceeded to forget much of what she taught me back then, she's been kind enough this past summer to do some refreshing of skills (and added some new ones too!). Sewing is something I've been getting into lately, and something I wish I had more time for. Unfortunately the last thing I want to do is mend clothes.... I always want to spend my rare time sewing something new! I'm with Mellanee though, I doubt I'll ever achieve the amazing abilities my Grandmother has behind a sewing machine! (Let's just say we call her our "magical sewing Grandma", heck she got me into a Maid of Honor Dress that was too sized too small for my very preggo belly! Yes, it required TWO re-sizing sessions. Needless to say, she's a personal craft hero of mine).

I wish I could sew! I have my grandmother's old sewing machine and my kids keep wanting to see it work. Wish I had the time to learn. You know, Jo-Ann Fabrics offers classes if you're serious.
